How to attach a pearl clasp to a strand of pearls
(You will need: a pearl clasp, beading needle, silk thread, and strong adhesive, such as Crystal Cement)
- Slide your thread through the eye of your beading needle. Tie a knot in the tail end of the thread and pass the needle through your first pearl and one of the jump rings on the side of the clasp. (Make sure that the hole in your pearl is large enough for the needle and thread to pass through twice.)
- Make a half knot to secure the clasp to the thread, make another half knot and pull tight.
- Thread the needle back through the pearl, slide the pearl snuggly to the knot at the clasp, then make a half knot.
- Make another half knot. Pull the knot tight. Apply adhesive to the knot, let dry, then trim the tail close to the pearl.
- String on your pearls. When you reach your desired length, thread the needle through the jump ring on the other side of your clasp and make two half knots.
- Pass the needle back through the pearl closest to your clasp, slide the pearl snuggly to the knot at the clasp, and make a half knot.
- Make another half knot and pull it tight.
- Apply adhesive to the knot, let dry, and trim excess thread.
